The Unwritten Law

I was honored to work with Broadway actor/ champion beatboxer Chesney Snow on his original play The Unwritten Law.

Thoughtfully incorporating choreography, music, and projections, the show tells the story of how systemic racism and racial violence left its mark on Chesney’s own family history.

By selecting, animating, and timing archival images and stock footage I created projections that helped Chesney achieve his vision to have the play serve as a kind of “living documentary” - the images were mostly meant to amplify historical context to the challenges his family encountered.

I have included a short segment from the play to illustrate this work (my final projections that were used in the show are here overlaid on rehearsal footage, which I also co-filmed and edited for promotional use).

I have also shared three interviews I co-directed, filmed, and edited on behalf of FloVoice, an online platform dedicated to sharing all things related to vocal music performance. Given Chesney’s renown as a beatboxer as well has his then-recent run in the cast of In Transit, Broadway’s first a cappella musical, his solo creative work was of great interest for viewers of the platform (myself included).
